Why Roof Cutting Is a Different Job
A roof has layers on top of it. Screed. A waterproof sheet. Sometimes insulation and tiles. All of that has to be opened up before the blade even touches concrete.
Under those layers is the slab. Roof slabs in Abu Dhabi are RCC, which means steel bar runs all the way through them. RCC roof cutting needs diamond blades, not breakers. Our saws cut straight through rebar. No hammering. No shaking the building. No cracks in the concrete you want to keep.
Then there is the piece you are taking out. On a floor you can often lower it a short way. On a roof that piece is sitting three or six floors up. We plan how it comes down before we start. We prop it, lift it out, or cut it into small pieces that two men can carry.
That is why concrete roof cutting needs a specialist crew and not a general demolition gang.
Cut Clean. Protect the Structure.
Roof cutting requires careful planning from the surface layers through to the final removal of the concrete section.
Roof Openings We Cut
Most calls we get for concrete roof cutting services in Abu Dhabi are for one of these jobs.
Skylight openings.
A clean, square hole in the roof slab for a skylight or roof light. The edges have to be straight because the frame sits right on them.
Roof access hatches.
A new roof access opening so your maintenance team can get up top without an outside ladder.
Staircase openings.
Taking an inside stair up through the roof slab so it reaches roof level.
Water tank plinths.
Cutting the slab for new tank supports, or taking out old plinths during a roof modification.
Plant room and lift machine room holes.
Openings for cables, pipes and gear when roof-mounted plant is going in or coming out.
Vent and riser holes.
Roof openings for plumbing stacks, electrical conduit and vent pipes coming up from below.
Part of the slab removed.
Structural roof cutting to take out a section of slab during building modifications, and leave the rest of the structure sound.
Roof drainage openings.
Cutting precise openings for roof drains, rainwater outlets and drainage connections where new or modified roof drainage is required.
If your opening is for AC ducts or HVAC gear, that is a slightly different job with its own sizing and sealing rules. See our AC duct cutting page for that work.
How We Cut a Roof Slab
Every roof slab cutting job is planned around the structure, access, cutting method and safe removal of the concrete section.
We scan the slab first
Before any cut we scan the concrete to find rebar, post-tension cables and anything buried inside. Cutting blind is how people hit a live cable or weaken something that was holding load. Our concrete scanning team marks the slab so the cut line is agreed before the saw comes out.
We pick the right saw
Small holes are done with handheld concrete cutting. Bigger square openings usually go to a track-mounted wall saw, which gives straight edges and sharp corners. Thick sections, or spots where there is no room to swing a blade, go to wire sawing.
We control the water and the dust
Diamond blade cutting uses water to cool the blade and hold the dust down. On a roof that water has to be managed or it runs into the building and ruins a finished floor below. We bund the cut area and vacuum the slurry as we go. That is what dust-controlled cutting means in practice.
We cut with low vibration
Diamond cutting does not shake a building the way breakers do. That matters when people are still working inside. It also matters when the slab you are cutting is holding up the equipment sitting next to it.
We bring the piece down under control
The cut section is propped from below or rigged from above before the last cut is made. If a slab needs propping, we put the props in and we take them out. Nothing falls.
We use our own machines
All of this runs on heavy-duty cutting equipment we own and look after ourselves. Concrete cutting machinery takes a beating on site. Hired-in gear that nobody has serviced is what causes a blade to fail at height. Ours is checked before every roof job.
We Put the Waterproofing Back
Cutting a roof means cutting through the waterproof layer. If that layer is not sealed properly around the new hole, the roof leaks at the first rain. By then the cutting crew has gone home and it has become your problem.
We handle it. Once the opening is cut and the section is out, our men reseal the waterproofing around the new edge. The roof is watertight before we leave site.
That means one contractor is responsible for the whole job. You are not chasing a cutting crew and a waterproofing crew and listening to each one blame the other for a leak. We cut it. We seal it. We hand it over.
Tell us what waterproofing system is on your roof when you call, so we bring the right materials with us.
Working Up High, Safely
Every roof job starts with a plan for access and edge protection. Our operators follow your site permit system, and we speak to your safety officer before the crew goes up.
Roof Access
How the machines get to roof level — hoist, crane or stairs
Closed-Off Zone
Where the closed-off zone sits on the floor below the cut
Area Below
Whether the room under the opening has to be cleared while we cut
Power at Roof Level
We run 220V single phase as standard and 415V three phase for the bigger saws
Slurry & Cut Pieces
Where the slurry and the cut pieces are collected
Work-at-Height Permit
If your site needs a work-at-height permit before we start, tell us when you enquire and we will work to it with your safety team.

Choosing Roof Cutting Contractors in Abu Dhabi
Working since 2013.
We have been cutting concrete in Abu Dhabi for over ten years. When contractors compare roof cutting companies here, the thing that brings them back is simple. We turn up when we said we would.
Men, not just machines.
You are not hiring a saw and hoping your labourer can run it. Our trained operators do the cutting and they own the result.
Based in Musaffah.
Our yard is in Musaffah M09. That means we get to your site fast, anywhere in Abu Dhabi.
Clean cuts save you money.
A precise cut costs less to make good afterwards. Rough edges from a breaker cost more to patch than the cutting cost in the first place.
Straight answers on price.
Send us the hole size, where it is, and a photo. We will tell you what it costs and how long it takes.
Safety comes with the job.
We plan access, protection, scanning and cutting before the crew starts, so the roof work is carried out in a controlled and organised way.
Typical Roof Cutting Projects in Abu Dhabi
Roof cutting requirements vary from site to site. These are typical projects where specialist concrete roof cutting is used.
Roof Access Hatch
A hotel roof may require a new access hatch for maintenance teams. The slab is scanned first, the opening is marked and cut into controlled sections, then the waterproofing around the new opening is resealed.
New Roof Plant Opening
A commercial building can need a new opening for roof-mounted plant, cables or mechanical services. The cutting method is selected according to the slab thickness, reinforcement and available access for removing the cut section.
Skylight and Roof Opening
Villa roof modifications may require a clean opening for a skylight or roof light. The cut is planned around the existing reinforcement and the removed concrete is broken into manageable sections before the roof edge is prepared for the new installation.
Every roof is different. Slab thickness, reinforcement, access, lifting arrangements and waterproofing all affect the cutting method and programme.
