What We Cut for Lift and Elevator Installations
Lift shaft openings, floor by floor
We cut through the slab on each level so the shaft runs clean from the pit right up to the top. Every opening has to sit directly under the one above it. On a ten-floor job, being a few millimetres out on the third floor turns into a real headache by the ninth.
So we set out every opening off the shaft line itself, never off whichever floor we happen to be standing on.
Lift door opening cutting
One opening at each landing for the lift doors. We cut them to your supplier’s sizes with clean square edges so the door frame sits in properly. Rough edges here mean a frame that never quite sits flush, and you notice it every time the doors open.
Lift pit cutting and breaking out
The pit at the bottom of the shaft has to match the depth your lift model needs. We break out and cut down to whatever level you give us. It’s tight, wet work in an existing building, and it goes a lot better with a crew that has done it before.
Machine room slab openings
Openings through the machine room floor for ropes, cables and control gear. Cut exactly where the drawing puts them.
Why Lift Shaft Cutting Is Harder Than It Looks
Anyone can cut a hole in a slab. A lift shaft is a different job, for four reasons.
The tolerances are not yours.
Your lift supplier inspects the shaft before they deliver. If it doesn’t pass, nothing moves and everyone stands around waiting.
Mistakes stack up.
An error on a lower floor doesn’t stay on that floor. It gets worse the higher you go.
The building is usually occupied.
People are living or working around you. That changes how you cut, when you cut, and how you keep water and dust off their floors.
Every opening takes weight off something.
Cutting reinforced concrete out of a slab changes how that slab carries load. Propping goes in before anyone starts cutting. We put it in and we take it out.
How We Cut It
The machine depends on the opening. It’s all diamond cutting, done wet, with the water and slurry kept under control.
Wall sawing
Vertical openings in shaft walls, including the door openings.
Wire sawing
Thick reinforced sections and corners a blade can’t get into.
Floor sawing
Straight cuts across a floor slab.
Slab cutting
Full structural openings and removals in RCC slabs.
Core cutting
Smaller round holes for cables, ropes and services.
You don’t need to know which one you want. Tell us what the shaft has to look like and we’ll bring the right machine.
How the Job Runs
A clear process keeps lift shaft cutting accurate, safe and coordinated with your lift supplier and site team.
Site visit.
We come and look at the building. No charge, and usually within a day.
Drawings.
We work off your lift supplier’s shaft drawing and agree the cutting order with your site engineer.
Scanning.
We scan the concrete first so we know where the rebar and buried services are before a blade goes near it.
Propping.
Supports go in. Our crew installs them and takes them out at the end.
Cutting.
Floor by floor, in the order we agreed.
Removal.
Cut sections come out under control and go off site.
Handover.
Openings barricaded, area washed down, shaft ready for your lift installers.

Safety, Dust and Keeping the Site Clean
An open shaft is the most dangerous thing on a lift job. Nothing gets left open. Every opening is barricaded the moment it’s cut.
We cut wet so the dust stays down, and we manage the water so it doesn’t run into finished areas below. Cut sections get lowered or lifted out properly. Nothing gets dropped.
We’ll also work whatever hours the building allows. Nights and weekends are normal for us in occupied buildings.
Every Opening Protected
Barricaded Immediately
Every opening is protected the moment it is cut.
Water & Dust Controlled
Wet cutting keeps dust down while water is managed away from finished areas.
Sections Removed Safely
Cut sections are lowered or lifted out properly. Nothing gets dropped.
Nights & Weekends
We work around the hours your occupied building allows.
